In the scrapping world, digital scrapping is known as “the dark side” of scrapbooking. And when I say I’m edging ever so close to it, I mean that I’m facing being hopelessly and completely engulfed in it never to turn back to paper.
*gasp*
Never thought I’d see the day. I’ve seen friends go there. And stay there. And have had them tell me if I ever started I wouldn’t turn back either. And I always scoffed at them. That would never happen to me. And yet here I am a month after my first digital scrapbook page and I fear my digi friends were right. What am I going to do with this enormous stash of paper scrapping goodies I’ve been collecting for the last 8 years?! Will I ever finish the unfinished paper projects I’ve started?
I’ll tell you this. In about two weeks time I digi scrapped the highlights of 2008 (yes, the whole year) and made a Shutterfly book:
(click the book image to see the whole thing) and got it back and I’m pretty sure I’m hooked. I have never been able to paper scrap that fast. It’s been so rewarding and I love the idea of the photo books instead of the traditional (huge & heavy!) photo albums.
As I write this… well… I really can’t believe I’m writing this! Maybe it’s just the excitement of a “new love” and maybe I’ll regain my desire to paper scrap. But for the moment, it’s gone, baby gone.
Here are the pages I’ve created since the 2008 Year in Review book. Click on them to see the larger view.
a page about me & Ron celebrating our anniversary:
I love how I can blend the photo of the restaurant into the background of the page with digi scrapping.
.
Here’s another one of me Ron when we were at the beach a couple years ago. More blendy goodness:
Kinda dreamy, huh?
.
Now here’s one that doesn’t utilize the blending, but I finished this page eons faster than if I’d tried to do this with paper. And there’s stitching on it! I don’t own a sewing maching and was never able to stitch on my paper pages. Not that I’d be able to anyway since I can’t sew my way out of a paper bag… but I digress…
That was in ’07 before Jaimee was a glimmer in our eye. 😉
.
And here’s one with my sweet Jaimee love!
Finished in lightning-speed time.
.
So I have TONS to learn still, I know. But I’m completely and utterly loving it.
hahaaa!!! i TOLD you!!!
🙂 I am firmly planted with one foot in traditional scrapping and one foot in digital. I love them both equally, but I know that eventually (when I finish the 2 more traditional albums for Ryan and then 5 more for Adrian that I have stashed in my closet with embossed spines) I will go all digi. One fun thing I found recently about digital: you can use the pages for more than one album. I had done Zoey’s first year in two digi books. I then pulled the pages that I wanted and filled in the blanks to make our 2008 family album. I am going to pull from that and fill in more blanks to make a 2008 highlights album for Brynn!
soooo cool, kathleen!
it is great to hear from you, been way too long.
Jaimee is getting so big and cute 🙂
Your family is beautiful.
Keep in touch!
What a gorgeous book! 🙂 I’m still back & forth. Haven’t been able to completely break my addiction of touching my traditional supplies. LOL
Isn’t it AWESOME?!!! You are making amazing layouts too. Seems like you’ve completely caught on. 🙂 It was good to see you in my Inbox, Kathleen. Hope you are well!!
Oh, wow! Watch out digital scrap world, here comes Kathleen leaving none of her paper scrap talents behind. These all look fantastic! And, oh my, sweet Jamie Grace now has some hair! Congrats on your new found passion, Kathleen!
Kathleen, you are amazing! LOVE LOVE LOVE it all! I can’t wait to have a digi night! 🙂
They are all beautiful Kathleen! Your kids are so sweet ♥
I cannot believe my eyes! I know exactly what you mean! I have never understood it. And, the funny thing is that I absolutely love the computer. I love creating things for school, but when it comes to scrapping, I just never understood the hype! They are absolutely beautiful! I don’t know… Your power of suggestion is very strong, I have to tell you! Tell me when I can come over for a lesson. Knowing you, you are far more advanced than most all beginners! 🙂 I think what I am afraid of is that I will love it and my $1,000’s will all go down the tubes. 😦 Great, Kathleen, now I already thinking about a lap top, programs, etc. Call me!
Wow, look at you.. amazing digi pages!! I’m so impressed, I only wish I could do anything digi. Love all the pages and your beautiful family. 🙂
I’m loving your digi pages. They are beautiful!! It’s addicting isn’t it???
love the pages you have made in the digital world….if i was more computer savy i might take a step into it too, but for now i’ll just ohh and ahh from afar 🙂
Wow!! Gorgeous pages Kathleen!! I have yet to go there to the Dark Side!!
You and your family are beautiful!!
Hope all is well!!
Hugs, Melissa
Your pages are gorgeous. I’ve been digi scrapping a year now–a little over. Started paper scrapping one year before that. You’ll love the dark side. I still have my paper stuff and keep saying I need to donate it to the school. One of these days. I’ll never turn back.
heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy great digi pagesssssssssssssss, all re so fab!!!!!! I likeeeeeeeeeee!!!! Kisses for you amiga!!!!
LOL, Kathleen! ‘Prince of Darkness’ here. Not a ‘pure’ anything when it comes to crafting.
Thanks for ‘shedding light’.
I love your pages! I was one who swore that going digital wouldn’t keep me from paper scrapping. I was soooo wrong!! Not only was I much faster at scrapping digitally but I love my digital pages a whole lot more than I ever did my paper pages. The format is just so freeing! Oh, and photobooks… I LOVE them. I have probably 50 that I’ve done over the past couple of years (and duplicates of each tucked away nicely in case the kids mess one up!).
